A Gift for a Special Child is a great animal allegory to read to small children who will enjoy the stirring tale paired with vibrant illustrations. The story was originally written for a baby shower for a young African woman expecting her first child. The writing is intentionally at a 7th grade reading level because by that point, most have received adequate instruction on how babies are made and how to prevent that, but not enough on how to welcome and parent children when they become adults. A Gift for a Special Child transcends children’s literature to become a family story to strengthen the next generation.
